Alberni Valley Youth Soccer Association (AVYSA) Development proved to be a great experience this past fall!
AVYSA Players from U9 - U12 age bands participating in 10 training sessions over 10 weeks. Improvements in each of the players soccer ability was noted by coaches. This was due to the player’s commitment to the program and effort on the field!
In November the team travelled to Arbutus Meadows indoor turf in Nanoose for a practice with Vancouver Island University (VIU) Women’s Head Coach and Vancouver Island Whitecap’s Academy Head Coach Kevin Lindo. Kevin is an extraordinary coach and he connects very well with the young kids. The players had a lot fun practicing with Kevin and they learned a lot at the same time.
The team also travelled to Merle Logan Turf Field in Nanaimo to cheer on VIU Men’s team in their Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Game. Kevin Lindo arranged for the Development team to participate in the gold medal match activities. The players walked the men’s team onto the field for the opening ceremonies. They also participated in the team’s cheer which our players found very inspiring! They cheered VIU on to watch them win the gold medal!
Twice the team had Professional Coach Vladimir from Nanaimo join the team and lead them in practice. Having someone with Vladimir’s knowledge of the game was invaluable to the players. Having different coaches bring their unique perspectives and coaching style really expanded the players appreciation for the skill involved in soccer.
