The Alberni u15 girls rep team won the Island Cup Championship for an unprecedented 2nd year in a row.
The Alberni u15 girls rep team defeated a very tough Prospect Lake (P.L.) team from Victoria with a hard fought 3-2 victory. The game was played on a very windy Duncan soccer field. With the score tied 2-2 after regulation the game went immediately into penalty shots. Alberni shot second after Alberni's goalie Paige Maher saved P.L 's first shot. Anneke Korver stepped up and scored on Alberni's first shot. P.L's second shot went in just before Lauren Spencer Smith tucked her shot safely into the net. P.L's third shot was another great save by Paige Maher. Kamryn McKean, shooting third, did not miss her chance to score. P.L. had to score to stay alive but shot wide causing the Alberni girls to erupt in a victory run to congratulate their very relieved goalie.
This was the second year in a row that the Alberni girls have won the Island Cup Championships in a penalty shoot out, winning the previous year as a u14 group.
The girls on both Cup winning years were: Kiara Gilks, Sydney Chase, Acacia Thompson, Sarah Mathews, Sarah Rust, Lauren Spencer Smith, Ashley Dorn, Bella Hall, Kamryn McKean, Hannah Rust, Paige Maher, Jamie Langlois and Anneke Korver.
